Collection: Silicone Heater Mats

Heater Mats

Heater mats are used within a variety of sectors from the food industry and horticulture to chemical, aviation, and space. Also known as silicone heaters, thin-film heaters, or etched foil heaters, these flexible heating elements are ideal for uneven surfaces or areas where space is limited. Operating up to 180°C, they are easy to install with prices starting from under £35.

Mica pads and silicone heating mats

Heating mats are the ideal solution for businesses looking for straightforward installation on uneven surfaces. In many cases, silicone heating mats only require the backing on the adhesive to be peeled off. This helps to keep it in place and provides the strong adhesion needed in busy working environments.

They work well with various temperature control elements, such as sensor pockets, in-built sensors, and thermostats, which can all be fitted to the heaters to give you a more accurate way to control temperatures. While not waterproof, these mats are capable of handling the occasional liquid splash, giving you the control you need at all times.

Offer a low thermal mass and exceptional insulation, they can safely be left on for an extended period of time. With the addition of a thermostat, you can check the temperature to ensure you are meeting the requirements of your business.

Choosing the right flexible heating mat

There are typically four different types of heating mats. One of the most popular is the silicone heater mat. The flexible material makes it ideal for those uneven surfaces, as it can bend 10mm. With an adhesive backing, the mat can run at a maximum temperature of 180°C, but without the backing, it can reach 200°C. At a minimum thickness of 0.8mm, you may need something thinner. Kapton heater mats can reach 260°C at a thickness of 0.15mm, while polyester reaches 120°C at 0.2mm thickness.

Another excellent choice is the mica heating pads. While they do not come with an adhesive backing and cannot bend like silicone, they can reach a far higher temperature, with a maximum operating temperature of 600°C. Easy to install with 2 leads pot-sealed for mains connection, they might be the ideal solution for your business.

FAQs

What are silicone heaters?

Silicone heaters are flexible mats using electrical currents to reach temperatures up to 200°C. The flexible nature of the mats makes them ideal for uneven surfaces, and they are designed to be used safely for extended periods of time.

What is the maximum temperature of a silicone heater?

Silicone heaters can reach temperatures of up to 200°C. However, as many come with an adhesive backing, your mat may only reach 180°C without damaging the backing keeping the mat in place.

What are the different types of heater mats?

Heater mats typically come in one of four different materials: polyester, silicone, Kapton, and mica. Polyester can reach 120°C, silicone 200°C, Kapton 260°C, and mica 600°C. All are flexible except for the mica heating mats, which are more rigid but reach higher temperatures.

What applications can heater mats be used for?

Heater mats can be used in a variety of industries and settings, as they can effectively heat and maintain the temperature of an area or equipment. Typically they are seen on catering hot food counters, outdoor telecommunication enclosures, aircraft repairs, laboratory equipment, tank heating, and battery warming.
