Ruby jacketed infrared lamps have the same purpose as the ruby slim but with the added feature of a second tube which gives the lamp tube inside protection against foreign bodies that may damage the lamp by attaching its self to the lamp tube causing a blackening effect that would otherwise cause the lamp to fail prematurely. The lamp also has more protection against knocks that would generally break the lamp. It also reduces the glare that comes from the lamp.
