IBC Heater Blankets: Moisture Protection, Care and Repairs

An insulated IBC heater blanket helps maintain the temperature of your container’s contents, but protecting the jacket from moisture is an important part of looking after it. Here, we explain why we do not offer repairs on these units, how to reduce the risk of moisture damage, and what is coming next in our range.

Why don’t we offer a repair service?

Unfortunately, Under Control Instruments does not offer a repair service for these insulated IBC heater blankets due to the nature of their design.

Excessive moisture ingress over time is the main issue we typically find with failed units. Moisture entering the jacket can cause electrical short-circuiting and lead to failure. For this reason, keeping the blanket away from prolonged exposure to liquids is an important part of its care.

Splash-resistant does not mean waterproof

Our current IBC heater jackets can withstand occasional splashes, but they are not waterproof. This distinction is particularly important around filling areas or anywhere a jacket could remain wet for an extended period.

Even if a jacket has tolerated splashes previously, it should not be treated as suitable for repeated soaking or prolonged exposure to moisture.

Remove the jacket before filling

Before filling your IBC with liquid, remove the heater blanket to keep it clear of spills and overflow. It should also be removed whenever there is a risk of prolonged exposure to moisture.

Taking this precaution helps reduce the likelihood of liquid entering the jacket. Before returning it to use, check that the jacket and the surrounding area are dry, and always follow the operating instructions supplied with your unit.

If you suspect moisture has entered the heater blanket or the unit has developed a fault, stop using it and contact us for advice. Do not continue operating a jacket that may have suffered electrical damage.

Coming later this year: an IP65-rated version

We will be launching a fully IP65-rated IBC heater blanket later this year, offering a much higher level of protection against moisture ingress than our current splash-resistant jackets.

The new version will provide an additional option for customers who need greater moisture protection. We will share further specifications and availability details when it launches.
