What is a Gas Interlock System?

A gas interlock system (or gas safety shut-off system) is a mandatory safety mechanism in many commercial kitchens and gas-powered facilities. Its role is to prevent the release of hazardous gases by ensuring that:

  • Gas appliances only operate when the extraction fans are running.

  • Gas flow is automatically shut off in the event of fan failure or unsafe operating conditions.

  • Operators are alerted to unsafe conditions via both visual and audible alarms.

This prevents gas leaks, fires, and exposure to harmful fumes, protecting both staff and property.

How It Works

  1. Fan Current Monitoring – Built-in sensors continuously monitor the electrical current of canopy fans to verify operation.

  2. Intelligent Control Panel – Processes input from fans and controls gas solenoid valves.

  3. Set Points – Adjustable fan current set points ensure appliances only run with sufficient airflow.

  4. Automatic Shut-Off – If fan speed drops below the set threshold, the system cuts off the gas supply via solenoid valves.

  5. Safety Alarms – Provides both visual indicators and audible warnings to alert staff immediately.
