How do they work?

The thermocouple is a gas furnace component near to the pilot light burner. Its a safety device that will shuts off the gas if the pilot light goes out or the electric igniter fails.

If the pilot light doesn’t stay lit, the thermocouple may be faulty and should be adjusted or replaced. To adjust the thermocouple, you must tighten the thermocouple nut with a wrench. Take care not to apply too much pressure to the nut — just tighten it slightly. Then try lighting the pilot. If the pilot won’t stay lit, replace the thermocouple with a new one of the same type.

 THERMOPILES

thermopile

Thermopiles are similar to gas thermocouples put are several thermocouples in one which gives a higher voltage for control,
These devices appear in numerous applications, including appliances such as gas fireplaces and fireplace inserts, commercial boilers and gas fryers. Understanding the differences between a thermopile and a thermocouple fireplace requires an understanding of the differences between these two devices.
Ther are three obvious differences exist between a thermopile and a thermocouples. Most obviously is that a thermopiles contain a series of interconnected thermocouples, meaning that technically speaking any device using thermopiles contains thermocouples. While both thermopiles and thermocouples give accurate temperature readings, thermopiles generate more electricity in doing so, making them more valuable in appliances that use them to generate electricity. Also, while both devices detect radiation, thermopiles do so much more accurately, with a greater degree of sensitivity.

UNIVERSAL PILOT BURNERS

These gas pilot burners are used with our gas thermocouples and ignitors, they are supplied with 4 and 6 mm nuts and olives making them suitable for both sizes. We stock the 3 way side entry version that is suitable for Natural and LP gas.
